How to Test a Phone After Screen Replacement

Last updated: August 2026

Why test after repair?

A screen replacement can affect more than just the display. The touch digitizer, front camera, proximity sensor, and ambient light sensor are often part of the screen assembly. Testing after a repair ensures everything works and gives you leverage if something went wrong during the fix.

What to check

  • Touch accuracy and dead zones across the entire screen
  • Display colors, brightness uniformity, and dead pixels
  • Front camera alignment and image clarity
  • Proximity sensor behavior during calls
  • Ambient light sensor auto-brightness response

Step-by-step checklist

1. Screen and display test

Open the Screen Test and cycle through all solid colors. Look for dead pixels, stuck pixels, pressure marks, and uneven backlighting. Pay close attention to the edges where the screen meets the frame.

2. Touch screen test

Run the Touch Screen Test to verify the new digitizer registers touches accurately. Check every corner and edge. Dead zones or ghost touches after a screen replacement indicate a faulty digitizer or poor installation.

3. Front camera test

Use the Camera Test to verify the front camera works and is properly aligned. After a screen replacement, the camera module may be slightly shifted, causing blurry selfies or misaligned face unlock.

4. Microphone test

Run the Microphone Test to confirm the earpiece and bottom microphone still capture audio. The ribbon cables connecting these components can sometimes be disturbed during a screen swap.

5. Run the full health suite

Run the Health Suite to get a combined report on all sensors and hardware. This gives you a single document you can share with the repair shop if something is not working.

When to contact the repair shop

Contact the repair shop immediately if you notice dead zones on the touch screen, color distortions, a non-working front camera, or a proximity sensor that does not turn off the display during calls. Most reputable shops offer a warranty on screen replacements and will redo the repair at no cost. Document any issues with screenshots or screen recordings before contacting them.
