Speaker Test — Check Your Speakers Online

Verify that your phone or computer speakers are working. This browser-based test plays audio tones through each channel so you can confirm output and left/right balance.

Run the Speaker Test

Test your speakers, check audio output, and verify left/right channel balance.

How the test works

  1. Click Start to begin the speaker test.
  2. A tone plays through the left channel, then the right channel.
  3. You confirm whether you heard the tone from each speaker.
  4. The test also plays a combined tone to check overall output.

What the test checks

  • Audio output — whether the device can produce sound
  • Left channel — whether the left speaker/headphone works
  • Right channel — whether the right speaker/headphone works
  • Channel balance — whether both channels produce similar volume

Supported browsers

The speaker test works in any modern browser with Web Audio API support. Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Firefox on desktop and mobile are all supported. On mobile devices, make sure the volume is turned up and the device is not in silent mode.

Common issues

  • No sound at all — check that the device volume is up and not in silent/vibrate mode. On laptops, verify the correct audio output device is selected in system settings.
  • Sound from one channel only — this may indicate a hardware issue with one speaker, or the audio jack may be partially inserted. Try headphones to isolate the problem.
  • Distorted audio — could be a hardware fault in the speaker driver, or the volume may be set too high causing clipping.

Limitations

This test verifies that the browser can produce audio output through the device speakers or headphones. It cannot diagnose physical speaker damage, water damage to speaker components, or driver-level audio issues. If you hear distorted or no sound despite the test playing tones, the problem is likely hardware-related.
