Microphone Test — Check Your Mic Online

Use your browser to test your microphone. This page will request microphone access, let you pick between available devices, monitor input levels, and confirm your mic is working — all without installing anything.

Run the Microphone Test

Test your microphone, check input levels, and verify permission handling.

How the test works

  1. Permission request — the browser shows a permission prompt. Allow microphone access to proceed.
  2. Device selection — if more than one microphone is connected you can switch between available input devices.
  3. Level monitoring — the page displays a real-time input level meter so you can see how loud your mic is picking up sound.

What the test checks

  • Microphone detection — whether a mic device is available
  • Permission status — granted, denied, or prompt state
  • Input level — real-time volume meter from the microphone
  • Silence detection — whether the mic is picking up any audio

Supported browsers

The microphone test works in any modern browser that supports the MediaDevices API. You can run it in Google Chrome, Safari, Microsoft Edge, or Firefox on both desktop and mobile. On iOS, use Safari for the best compatibility.

Common issues

  • "No microphone found" — your device may not have a built-in mic, or the mic may be physically disconnected.
  • Permission denied — check the browser site settings and re-enable microphone access. On mobile, check the device-level privacy settings too.
  • Low input level — try speaking closer to the mic, or check if another app is controlling the microphone gain.
  • Wrong device selected — if multiple microphones are connected, switch to the correct input device in the test.

Limitations

This test verifies that the browser can access a microphone and receive audio input. It cannot diagnose hardware faults such as a physically damaged mic element, water damage affecting the mic circuit, or software-level driver issues. If the browser detects a mic but input is distorted or extremely quiet, the problem is likely hardware-related.
